Barack's Stimulating Package? Too Sexual? Yes? No?
Alright, so Barack's gone on Campaign II to try and get this stimulus package passed. While everyone bickers about how it wouldn't stimulate for shit—let alone "create or save four million jobs". Then the big response to why we should pass the SP2 is "well, would you rather do nothing?" I mean, no... The Republicans would RATHER be the majority party and be in the White House—but they're not so I guess they'll try and play both sides of the fence and rain on your parade. *Tear* It's politics!
So GOPers are gonna bitch about how there's too much money heading places that aren't going to improve the economy while the Obamastration (You know what's annoying? Words like Obamastration. It was all really cool like two years ago when I started blogging or whatever. Now I dunno if I started the trend, but I'm pretty much over it. It's just every asshole's attempt at being clever. What does Obamastration even mean? It's not clever at all! It' just administration with Obama shoved on the front of it. Another poor example would be the term "Obamanation" I'll admit I giggled at first—but too many people have jumped on that bandwagon for it to be considered clever anymore. I bet everyone thinks they came up with it too...) contends that in the longterm having fancy schools with science wings will be for the benefit of the United States. Well, moon colonies could benefit us long term—and really, it'd only be what another 300 billion tacked on to the bill? The shit's gonna pass, if it succeeds beyond belief and the trees grow money (hooray!) then the Republicans will try and take credit for it—claiming to have limited the spending in the bill (honestly, that's not my idea—that's some asshole on NPRs idea and I think it was wrong. I don't think by any stretch of the imagination the fraction of educational spending that Republicans managed to have cut will ever result in anyone looking at this bill as anything but a piece Democrat legislation).
I'm no Republican. I'm in favor of the stimulus package. I want my check so I can save it and not use it to stimulate the economy at all. Spend free money? This isn't 1997 people, we're staring Greater Depression in the fucking face!?!? OMG!?! Maybe not... Still, it's not like I'm going to take my money and buy stock in Sirius XM or anything. I don't think finally having the cash to buy the newest Jordan's is going to save the country. So anything the average guy on the street gets is probably nothing but government hush money. Just the current administrations special little way of saying "shut up—-I'm working on it".
I don't think anyone is under the impression that this package is going to skyrocket the economy. The most I really expect from it is probably some market stability, maybe? That's all we're really looking for anyway. To not have the month's stock market summary look like the EKG of some comatose Italian chick for a little while.
Education supporters shouldn't fret though. I mean a purely education geared bill wont have a problem passing (that's a lie) if the economy ever straightens up. I don't think public opinion on NCLB has really changed drastically. No one just fucking cares about it right now. We're a little more concerned with where we're going to be working not where our kids are going to be while we're not working. Obama is just trying to get as much of his shit done as possible in the first go around I'm almost positive he intends to play clean up and get whatever else he can in the future...barring total collapse of the country.
Anyway children are our most valuable resource...lucky for us they're highly renewable. So we can technically put the whole "education" thing off for a few generations at least. The world will probably blow up before we even realize we've fucked ourselves over by procrastinating when it comes to education.
In the end... In an ideal world if the stimulus package is more successful this second go around (which, I mean it could be...) then that gives Obama more leeway in the future. If it fails... ::sigh:: Pick a good corner to sell apples from and let's wait this motherfucker out.
